A man has been arrested in County Fermanagh after a suspected improvised explosive device was found in a house in County Louth.
The arrest follows a joint operation between police in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
The device was found by Gardaí (Irish police) during a search of the Ravensdale area in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Following the discovery of the device, officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s terrorism investigation unit carried out a search of a property in Letterbreen, County Fermanagh, and arrested a 42-year-old man.
The man was arrested under the Terrorism Act and was taken to the serious crime suite at Musgrave police station for questioning.
A vehicle and other items were also seized from the property and have been removed by police for further forensic examination.
Det Ch Insp Hamlin said that officers carried out more searches in the Enniskillen area on Sunday, where a second vehicle was seized and a further search was conducted at a property in the Garrison area.
“Our investigation is continuing and we will be providing full support to An Garda Síochána as enquiries continue,” Det Ch Insp Hamlin said.
