Man seriously assaulted with golf club, scissors in 20-hour ordeal

A 61-year-old man will face court on Monday after police allege he repeatedly assaulted a younger man with scissors and a golf club in a shocking 20-hour ordeal in Sydney’s west.

A 46-year-old man was able to escape a Guildford unit and flag down a passing motorist after a prolonged assault, police allege. The older man was arrested at the scene and will face an aggravated sexual assault charge.

Police say the younger man entered a unit belonging to the older man on Rawson Road at around 7pm on Saturday night. Police allege the two men knew each other.

Shortly after entering the home the pair allegedly became embroiled in an argument, kicking off a prolonged attack in which the younger man was seriously assaulted with several items, including scissors and a golf club.

Police allege the 61-year-old prevented the younger man from leaving the home, keeping him there to endure the prolonged assault.

At around 4.30pm on Sunday, the 46-year-old was finally able to flee the unit, flagging down a motorist who was able to call for help.

A NSW Ambulance crew arrived a short time later and treated the man for “injuries consistent with an assault” according to a police statement.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

The older man was arrested and taken to Granville police station where he was charged with aggravated sex assault inflicting actual bodily harm on a victim, and taking person with an intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail and will appear at Parramatta Local Court on Monday.
