Stock Market LIVE: Indices listless; Oil-linked stocks decline, ONGC falls 3%, HPCL, IOCL 2%



Stock market updates on April 04, 2024: Benchmark equity indices turned volatile in Thursday’s intra-day trade after hiting fresh all-time highs, as profit-taking emerged at select counters.

 


The S&P BSE Sensex hit a new summit at 74,501, up over 600 points from the previous day’s close. The BSE index, thereafter, wiped out gains and tumbled to a low of 73,485 – down 1,016 points from the record high. The BSE benchmark was quoting  around 73,700 levels, down 200 points.

The NSE Nifty 50 scaled a high of 22,619, and then dropped to a low of 22,304. The index then quoted around 23,seen testing the 22,360, down 70 points.

 


HDFC Bank rose 3% at Rs 1,526 after the private sector lender reported over 100% YoY growth in retail loans in Q4. NTPC, Axis Bank, Power Grid Corporation and Tata Steel were the other major gainers. On the other hand, IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, ITC, Reliance, ICICI Bankl and HCL Technologies were among the notable Sensex loses.


The broader market too came of the record highs – the BSE MidCap was flat, while SmallCap up 0.1 per cent as against over nearly 1 per cent rally earlier today.
